First TIme "Scout Camp Mom" & Still Alive!

My baby and my only son left for Scout Camp this morning. Why is my stomach in knots? I know within reason they won't lose him...we've only lost 4 scouts in Utah over the last few years and only one never came back!!! That was in the high Uinta mts. and Richard will be up Payson Canyon east of Springville, only about 30 minutes away...sigh. He was a bit nervous and really wary last night. We assured him that all of us had been to camp and we were all nervous and a bit homesick the first day but that we all loved it after that and had a great time and we were sure he would too! Then I went to bed and prayed and worried for a long while. Why is this so hard? I've sent Four daughters away to camp, three away to college, and one away on a mission plus two semesters abroad in Europe!! Granted, Richard does have a few special needs but I believe Heavenly Father has been looking out for him for a long time. The two Scout Master are kind, fun, good men who love him and I belive they were placed in their callings for my son among others. One of them has a daughter with O.C.D. and one of them has it himself so they can completely understand his needs and help him. I just found that out yesterday and feel much better.

I don't think it matters how many children we send who knows where there are always "firsts" that leave us apprehensive. I know all the fears that go with sending scouts off (and missionaries, but you know that one too). I'm proud of you. I love you!

What a cute boy & it is hard when you send your "baby" off to camp. Both of my boys went to camp at the same time & it was too quiet. Then came the mission, marriage & an empty nest way too soon. I am sure he will do fine & have a great time even if Mom is very anxious.I hope he returns safe & sound!!

Marianne, I thought about Richard (and you) last night as I watched the News and saw the Boy Scouts being evacuated from Maple Dell, was he there? I heard everyone made it out safely, so I'm assuming all is well. If he was there, I'm sure this was a Scout Camp experience to beat all!

Gosh Nancy! I picked Richard up early(Thursday evening) so we could make a trip to my brother's house in Farmington, NM! I have no idea what happened but I am checking the news sites right away! Yes, Richard had a great time, was only a little homesick the first night and then he did very well! I survivied too!

I know how hard sending kids away can be also, but they do come back. I hope he had a good time. I keep you guys in my prayer also, especially Richard. I deal with some OCD stuff so I know how hard it can be, I wonder if it is hereditary? I have times where I cant do things til I count squares, tiles, steps etc... out to eleven, it can get irritating to me. LOVE YOU, TARA
