Time Travel Tuesdays~

Happy New Year everyone! I took a self-imposed break for a couple of weeks. I needed to rest and gather my sanity. The Little House on the Corner has been fairly bursting with bodies, laughter, game playing, and clutter! Clutter is my enemy and yet, seems to be my constant companion. I am of the belief that it spontaneously reproduces when we are not looking. At any rate, I feel back to normal and ready to do some deep, deep cleaning. Is anyone else this way? I am itchy to transform something. It is only 16 degrees outside and icicles are hanging from my roof so I might as well get busy inside!

Before I get busy cleaning I wanted to share the sweetest photo with you. As a child I was always surrounded by  pets. I especially love dogs. Let's travel back to 1959 and see what may have been my first case of "Puppy Love".
This me with my Aunt Fern's Cocker Spaniel, appropriately named Lady. I loved Lady and looked forward to summertime visits to Aunt Fern and Uncle Smitty's home in Bloomfield, New Mexico so I could see this sweet doggie!

Here's what else I love about this photo:

1. I love the awesome 50's era television set. Those things were veritable pieces of furniture!Love the knobs and dials. That's where that saying, "Don't touch that dial!" came from.

2. There's a peek outside at the balcony that looked out over the river valley. It was beautiful. I felt like I was on top of the world out there.

3. On top of the T.V. is a doily. Those were big back then. My mother covered our furniture in doilies!

4. Look back to the T.V. top. you will spy the most coveted plaything Aunt Fern owned. It is a little cast-iron cook stove that I could not wait to get my hands on every time we visited! All of the little doors worked, the stove lids lifted off, and there were little black iron pots and pans, as well as a griddle. I see stoves like this from time to time now and one day I will buy one so that I can share it with future grandchildren. I can teach them all about when food was cooked with fire! Come to think of it, I always wanted to build a fire in that little stove. The grown-ups wouldn't let me. They were no fun.

More fun stuff:
Take a look at this blog. Dorie and her husband own an old bungalow home in Mesa, AZ. She shares a love of old homes with me. In following her blog I came to realize that the house she and her husband were restoring looked very familiar! I did a bit of research and came up with some information for her. She kindly gives me a little mention in yesterday's post. If you love old houses you will enjoy scrolling back through her posts to see how the old place turned out. Her decorating is wonderful and you will love her ideas!

I remember playing at Ferns house with that exact stove when I was a little girl! I loved it. It always seems magical to play with something in miniature!

Another wonderful post! I'm glad that you all enjoyed the holidays and are now back to normal or sort of. I'm still not back to normal, but then again am I ever?

I love the picture! So fun!
Thanks so much for sharing!

Oh how I loved the dollies and hankerchiefs just because they were all homemade and so beautiful. I remember how I would love to wear the dollies either on my head or I would fold them in half several times and with a straight pin I would pin them to my shirt and pretend they were crosages. Thank you for the walk down memory lane - oh so wonderful.

Another fun post, Marianne. I have to comment on the doilies. Someone told me recently that doilies are out of fashion, that no one uses them anymore, that they are considered antiques. WHAT??? I love doilies. I spent quite a bit of money buying a new collection in Europe. I have them from the Netherlands, from Italy, from Germany and Switzerland. I love each one and each one holds a special memory. I hate that they have become outdated and I still have all of mine out on various tables in my house. I think this must be one of the first steps to being considered OLD...when you just don't care that what you love isn't considered fashionable. I love "vintage" things and I love your "vintage" posts as well. Keep them coming!!
