The Color is Coming!

These are the last days of summer. I hang on to every minute of them every year. I dread winter. It must be the Arizona in me! But in between summer and winter is this magical time called autumn. The days are cooler. We sleep with our windows open at night. The A/C is not running non-stop. And among the things I love best...the leaves begin to turn.

On Labor Day we went in search of some color, Dee Richard, and I. We drove up American Fork canyon and took the Alpine Loop. This narrow, winding road takes you across the back of Mount Timpanogos and brings you out at Sundance Ski Resort and finally down Provo Canyon. We didn't see too much color but it was most assuredly beginning! Last Sunday Nienie and her family went up the Squaw Peak Trail over- looking Provo. There was a bit more color then...maybe we should go up there next! I'll share my colorful leaves with all of you desert rats out there! In the meantime, here are a few phtoos from our lovely, cool drive.

The mouth of American Fork Canyon just minutes from home.
Isn't it beautiful?

Fifteen minutes from home we had this view of where we had just come from!

Do you see that?! It has begun!

My boy and I at the first pull-out on the road.

Higher up we enter Aspen country.

At the summit on the Loop you can see the back of Mt. Timpanogos.

Our picnic spot near Aspen Grove.

To the east we had a meadow...to the west was the amphitheater.
Above us and all around us it was so pretty!

Not too much color other than green and brown but I'll find some more for you in about a week!

This was so exciting to see because we are coming up there this weekend to go to our granddaughter's soccer game and I think we'll get to see some beautiful color. Maybe we can even take a ride up one of the canyons and get a closer look. Your pictures are beautiful and it looks like such a fun day.

I am so jealous! Being from Arizona we don't have seasons like normal people. That is so exciting to see the leaves turning different colors. It is just beautiful! Thanks for sharing. Oh and your day looks like it was a lot of fun!

Love Ya,

I'm so dang depressed now. I burned the bottom of my feet early this morning taking out the trash and the trash cans are in the shade!! Can you send me a few leaves so I can remember what a real leaf even looks like? In turn I can send you either a dead tumbleweed or a scorpion (dead of course). I bet you can't get those there.
