Out With the Old....

res-o-lu-tion/ˌrɛzəˈluʃən/ [rez-uh-loo-shuhn]
–noun 1. a formal expression of opinion or intention made, usually after voting, by a formal organization, a legislature, a club, or other group. Compare concurrent resolution, joint resolution.
2. a resolve or determination: to make a firm resolution to do something.
3. the act of resolving or determining upon an action or course of action, method, procedure, etc.
4. the mental state or quality of being resolved or resolute; firmness of purpose.

I am NOT a fan of New Year's Resolutions. Most people make them and break them by February 1st. I have made a resolution in years past to NOT make New Year's Resolutions. I have been able to keep that one very well (imagine that!).

This year is different. This year requires some serious life changes. Life & Death? Possibly.

Dee and I both had our blood tested in 2008 and both of us have high cholesterol. We were astounded. Our diet is very low in cholesterol. I use non-fat everything and we only have red meat about once a week. The doctor assured us it is most likely genetic since we both have parents who have struggled with this.

Dee's father suffered a heart attack last month which gave Dee cause to rethink his diet and exercise routine.

My family is at high risk for Diabetes, both Type 1 and Type 2. This gives me reason to keep my weight down for the rest of my life. Any other Ellsworths out there...pay heed...Grandma Annie died from complications of diabetes.

I won't bore you with the details. Let's just say that Dee and Marianne (and hopefully their children) are re-vamping diet and exercise routines in 2009.

It's not a New Year's Resolution...it's a LIFE Resolution!!

P.S. Thank you Nancy for my snow falling! I love it!

I'm with you on the New Year's Resolution thing. I always make them and sure enough I break them so I don't make them anymore.
I love the thing about a life style change. When Blake lost this weight that's exactly what it was a life style change not a diet a life style change. We are trying hard to eat more healty and to have portion control along with exercise.
I hope that 2009 is a Happy healthy one for all of you ! We sure love you guys!

Goodmorning Marianne; I just read your post on New Years Resolutions. You are smart not to bother. They somehow get forgotten. To ease your mind a little bit. Granny Ellsworth did have age-related type 2 diabetes, which the majority will develop as we age. Although she was only 76 her body just wore out. The diabetes was just one of many things that contributed to that. It doesn't mean you are bound to develop it. There are some who will develop it at a much younger age. And it is a fact that if a person does get it they need to take care of it and be careful or they will soon be on insulin.
Wow you didn't need all this. I just wanted you to know that you shouldn't worry.

Happu New Year to you and yours. Love Mom

It's always a good goal to try to eat better and exercise more, so good for you and Dee. Isn't it a shame that we have to worry about all this stuff along with so many other things. Glad you had a happy Christmas and we wish you a Happy and Prosperous New Year too.

I'm afraid to have anything checked, it's been so long. Hopefully I'll be covered by insurance soon and find out I'm lucky I didn't die yet!
